A primer on the tax savings from tax credits

theglobeandmail.com Today, I want to talk about the “Big Four” tax credits, then shed a little light on some other tips related to credits

April 30th is the deadline! All proceeds go to charity. Get some ADVICE with your tax return. #CFP#Financialplan#TAX

Budget measures aimed at home buyers could put retirement savings at risk

For a couple the prospects of paying back potentially $70k to your RRSP’s at a time when less and less people have work place pensions could be devastating. Buying a home should be part of a larger financial plan.
#financialplan #cfp #rrsp #buyingahome

theglobeandmail.com Millennials looking to buy a first home don’t necessarily have bulky RRSPs from which they can borrow, and they need to have the ability to pay for unexpected events, some warn

A great article explaining the differences between tax deductions and tax credits! #CFP#CIM#Investments#Tax#Financialplan

theglobeandmail.com We’re officially into tax season, and two common questions I hear regularly are these: “Which is better, a deduction or a credit?” and “What deductions and credits will save me the most tax?” Here’s a primer for you

Tis' the season! Get your taxes done, all funds go the charity!

OMERS reports slight gain after shifting away from equities in 2018

If your advisor has not brought up private investments with you, they are doing you a huge disservice. OMER's added $10billion of 'new money' to these investments as well as selling off equities. Portfolio construction needs to include low volatility, non-correlated private assets.

theglobeandmail.com The return represents a $2.2-billion addition to the fund’s assets, which closed the year at $97-billion

The retirement issue no one talks about: the high cost of long-term care

This is a real retirement issue that is often not addressed when planning retirement. Make sure its part of your plan! #Financialplan #CFP

theglobeandmail.com Long-term care is a considerable expense to prepare for, but some experts believe it will be affordable if you sell your house or if you no longer need to spend on other costs of life beyond your care

Voting ends February 10th, 2019. All votes are very much appreciated!

I have been fortunate enough to be nominated for Financial Planner, Insurance Agent and Argosy as an Investment Firm. Thank you! Please take the time to vote- its much appreciated!

For much of the world, retirement’s golden rule of ‘pay yourself first’ doesn’t apply

Since the book The Wealthy Barber everyone has been aware of paying yourself first and putting 10% away. I would suggest for most people this isn't the case unless they are in a pension with forced contributions. An Advisor can and should be coaching their clients to save so they can meet their retirement objectives. The is one of the value adds that is hard to put a price on. A ROBO advisor doesn't challenge you to save more. #CFP#CIM#Plan

By not claiming CPP until 70, you could get 150% of the income you would receive at 65

Generally speaking delaying CPP will have the greatest benefit. There are times that this isn't the case. Work with a trusted advisor to see what fits into your plan! #CFP#CIM#Financialplan#Investments#Retirement

theglobeandmail.com The CPP is Canada’s second most complicated system – next to our income tax system, in which paid professionals normally take care of the decision-making instead of individuals.
