Today we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of two of our National Parks. Death Valley and Joshua Tree, both are in Southern California.
Death Valley is the hottest, lowest, and driest place in the United States, with daytime temperatures that have exceeded 130 °F. The park is at the lowest elevation in North America at 282 ft below sea level.
Joshua Tree covers large areas of the Colorado and Mojave Deserts and the Little San Bernardino Mountains, this desert landscape is populated by vast stands of Joshua trees. Large changes in elevation reveal various contrasting environments including bleached sand dunes, dry lakes, rugged mountains, and maze-like clusters of monzogranite monoliths.

Today we celebrate John Heisman, an American football coach that was born 150-years ago today. Heisman was one that legalized the forward pass and originated the center snap. 100-years ago today the Chicago White Sox lost Game 8, and the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. What makes this historic was that the "Black Sox Scandal" was a Major League Baseball match fixing incident in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox (including Shoeless Joe Jackson,) were accused of intentionally losing the 1919 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for money from a gambling syndicate. While they were eventually acquitted in a public trial, they were banned from baseball for the rest of their lives.

It's that time of year when we take the time to do what is needed to reduce the chance of fires in our homes or places of work. Besides installing, testing, or replacing batteries in smoke detectors, there are a number of things that can prevent a fire from happening in the first place. Here are a few for you to think about:
1. Clean your dryer vents
2. Avoid unattended or careless use of candles
3. Keep BBQ grills a safe distance from your home
4. Do not smoke indoors
5. Do not leave your stove unattended while cooking
I'm sure you have a few good ideas of your own as well?

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month
It used to be that you only had to worry about inserting an infected disk or USB fob into your computer. Today, cyber thieves are much savvier. Today you need to be sure that every file you download, every link you click, and every attachment you open is legitimate, and not a time bomb waiting to take over your computer or your entire network. Whether it is your personal computer, the network at your place of business, or your smartphone, don't open files and click links that you are unsure of.
With there being no guarantees, you might also want to talk to your insurance agent about Cyber Insurance for your business. Generally speaking, Cyber Insurance covers your business' liability for a data breach involving sensitive customer information, such as Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, account numbers, driver's license numbers, and health records. Call our agency if you have questions.

Be on the lookout for “storm chasers”👀🏚

We encourage all Wisconsinites to be leery of "storm chasers" that come knocking after severe weather. Always use caution when interacting with travelling crews that show up at your door after a storm, never let them into your home, and do not give in to high-pressure pitches.
