Today we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Zion National Park. At the junction of the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin, and the Mojave Desert; this park contains sandstone features such as mesas, rock towers, and canyons. The various sandstone formations and the forks of the Virgin River create a wilderness divided into four ecosystems: desert, riparian, woodland, and coniferous forest.

Today we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of two of our National Parks. Death Valley and Joshua Tree, both are in Southern California.
Death Valley is the hottest, lowest, and driest place in the United States, with daytime temperatures that have exceeded 130 °F. The park is at the lowest elevation in North America at 282 ft below sea level.
Joshua Tree covers large areas of the Colorado and Mojave Deserts and the Little San Bernardino Mountains, this desert landscape is populated by vast stands of Joshua trees. Large changes in elevation reveal various contrasting environments including bleached sand dunes, dry lakes, rugged mountains, and maze-like clusters of monzogranite monoliths.

100-years ago today the Volstead Act was passed by US Congress, establishing enforcement for prohibition, despite President Woodrow Wilson's veto. Prohibition came into force at midnight on January 17, 1920.

Today we celebrate John Heisman, an American football coach that was born 150-years ago today. Heisman was one that legalized the forward pass and originated the center snap. Can you imagine football today if we didn't have a passing game? You might also be aware of the fact that he also had a trophy named after him, which is awarded to the top player in NCAA football.

Today we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of Black Canyon of the Gunnison becoming a National Park. Located in western Colorado, the canyon features some of the steepest cliffs and oldest rocks in North America and is a popular site for river rafting and rock climbing.

100-years ago today the Chicago White Sox lost Game 8, and the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. What makes this historic was that the "Black Sox Scandal" was a Major League Baseball match fixing incident in which eight members of the Chicago White Sox (including Shoeless Joe Jackson,) were accused of intentionally losing the 1919 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for money from a gambling syndicate. While they were eventually acquitted in a public trial, they were banned from baseball for the rest of their lives.

It's that time of year when we take the time to do what is needed to reduce the chance of fires in our homes or places of work. Besides installing, testing, or replacing batteries in smoke detectors, there are a number of things that can prevent a fire from happening in the first place. Here are a few for you to think about:
1. Clean your dryer vents
2. Avoid unattended or careless use of candles
3. Keep BBQ grills a safe distance from your home
4. Do not smoke indoors
5. Do not leave your stove unattended while cooking

Today you need to be sure that every file you download, every link you click, and every attachment you open is legitimate, and not a time bomb waiting to take over your computer or your entire network. Whether it is your personal computer, the network at your place of business, or your smartphone, don't open files and click links that you are unsure of.
