MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman's cover photo

This cereals farmer in Tigray, Ethiopia is enrolling in an index insurance product to protect his crops against drought. This picture is worth more than a thousand words to our team at the Microinsurance Centre at Milliman. After months of getting input from smallholder farmers and working with limited data to develop a SUAVE (simple, understood, accessible, valuable, efficient) index product, we are thrilled to have launched the pilot and have the first clients insured. Beyond the insurance, clients can access agricultural technical assistance through extension services we have linked with to make the program’s value more tangible.

The [email protected] is currently working in Ethiopia, China, and the Republic of Georgia to develop microinsurance and broader risk management solutions for rural, low-income populations as part of a grant for the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) titled “Managing risks for rural development: Promoting microinsurance innovations” (MRRD). #microinsurance #indexinsurance #Ethiopia
