The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross
Falls Church, VA
Even though Bob Ross passed away over 20 years ago, he still carries a legacy.
Famous for his unforgettable hair, calming voice, and phrases like "Happy Little Trees" and "We don't make mistakes, just happy accidents." Millennials in particular have fallen in love with him, partly because his show The Joy of Painting is now featured on Netflix.
Fun fact: Bob Ross' iconic hair was actually not originally curly. He would get it permed in order to save money on haircuts.
Another Fun Fact: The first season of The Joy of Painting was filmed in Falls Church, VA.
Bob Ross personally spent most of his time in Florida, but his wife spent most of her time here in Northern Virginia. Bob Ross, Inc. still has a warehouse in the Herndon, VA area. It's at this warehouse where the 1,000+ painting that Ross painted on his show have been stored until recently when they donated some of those paintings to the Smithsonian.
His show continues to resonate with many people and his legacy lives on because his simply show went much deeper than just painting. He always wanted to inspire people to have confidence in what they could accomplish and to always be trying new things.
The Smithsonian does not have a plan to create an exhibit for his artwork, but there is good news! September 10-October 15 at Franklin Park Arts Center, in Purcellville, VA there will be "Happy Accidents: An Exhibit of Bob Ross Paintings." This will be the largest collection of Bob Ross paintings to be shown at one time. This exhibit will be free! You just need to have a timed ticket to enter. Tickets are going fast, though!

Caryn and her team made the entire process extremely easy via the document portal, e-sign process, and their willingness to answer any and all questions. Thanks to Atlantic Coast Mortgage, this was the least stressful process of purchasing a new home!"
Sean and Kelly, enjoy your home! It was an absolute honor for us to be a part of this incredible moment in your lives.

Historic Buildings of Our Community for the month of February:
The Pope-Leighey House
Originally built in Falls Church now in Alexandria
This month's historic building was designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, known for his work with Falling Water and the Guggenheim Museum.
In 1939, Loren Pope, a 28 year old journalist approached Frank Lloyd Wright about designing a house for him and his family. In his letter to the architect he said, "only you can create one that will become for us a home."
A few weeks later Frank Lloyd Wright replied with "Dear Loren, of course I’m ready to give you a house. Signed Frank Lloyd Wright."
Now that Loren Pope had the architect he just needed a loan. This actually proved to be way more difficult then he could have ever imagined. Multiple banks turned him down, one even claiming that this house would be a "white elephant."
Thankfully the newspaper that Pope had worked for began a program where they would lend money to their employees to build houses in the area. The house ended up being built in Falls Church, VA for around $7000.
Frank Lloyd Wright designed this 1200 sq. ft. home with simplicity in mind. He designed small bedrooms with visions of a family all being able to be together around the fireplace.
Eventually the Pope's sold the house in 1943 to the Leighey's for $17,000. In 1964, news spread that the Pope-Leighey house was in danger of being demolished due to the rerouting of Route 66. Marjorie Leighey, a year after her husband's death, made certain that this historic house would be preserved by donating it to The National Trust for Historic Preservation who ended up moving the house to the Woodlawn Plantation in Alexandria, VA.
The Grafton Group loves the rich history of our community!
The Pope-Leighey house is open to the public. Tours start back up on March 1 and tickets are $15.
For more information on touring this home you can visit: http://www.woodlawnpopeleighey.org/aboutpope-leighey

Did you know that it is Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week?
Did you know that 1 in every 100 babies is born with a congenital heart defect?
This July our dear friends Josiah and Carly, who recently closed with the Grafton Group, had a precious baby girl named Joanna (the adorable baby in the picture) who was diagnosed with Hyperplastic Left Heart Syndrome.
Today, 7 month old Joanna is at Children's Hospital for open heart surgery.
It's families like this that show how real and difficult congenital heart disease can be.
This is why this month we are so proud to be highlighting the Wholehearted Foundation.
If you would like to give financially to Wholehearted, you can go to their website here: https://www.wholeheartedfoundation.org/get-involved/
If you would like to give financially to help assist Joanna's family you can do so here: https://www.gofundme.com/wmrbv-baby-mcclure
If you are one of the brave heart warriors or one of the brave family members of a heart warrior know that we love you!
This week is Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week.
We are proud to announce that our February Charity Highlight is the Wholehearted Foundation.
A portion of every loan closed with the Grafton Group in the month of February will be going to this amazing charity.
Watch to see what all wholehearted does to help families who have children with congenital heart diseases and to see how you can help!

bbemaildelivery.com It has been blisteringly cold this January. The temperature and winds make it brutal just to go from your car to your front door. Now imagine being a teenager and having to face these conditions while sleeping in a tent, rooftop, or street. That’s just one of the examples of why Mobile Hope is so ...
Closing with Caryn and Michelle
Fernando and Anjelica just closed with the Grafton Group and sent us this thank you:
"Just stopping by to send your way a BIG BIG THANK YOU for everything in this last month. All went well yesterday and we love the house. Thanks a bunch!"
What they loved about closing with the Grafton Group:
Fernando said, "As a software engineer, what I loved was the system of pre-qualification."
"We closed in 20 days thanks to the work of Michelle, Monica, and Caitlin. Another reason why we loved working with Atlantic Coast Mortgage and the Grafton Group!"
Fernando and Anjelica, thank you so much for choosing the Grafton Group! Enjoy your new home!
Our Local Business Highlight for the month of January is: King Street Oyster Bar
Located in historic downtown Leesburg & Middleburg
King Street Oyster Bar specializes in bringing fresh oysters from both the West and East Coasts of the US and Canada to the communities we call home. On any given day, they offer 10+ varieties, which we get no more than 24 hours out of water from the East Coast, and no more than 48 hours out of water from the West Coast. It’s a quality and freshness you can taste.
Their menu also offers other creative seafood dishes and American-style fare with fresh, relatable ingredients, and a $5 happy hour menu every day of the week with inventive cocktails and craft brews.
They are a member of the Shell Recycling Alliance - Instead of our shells that would be dumped in landfills, they are now recycled, cleaned and treated with baby oysters and put back in to the Chesapeake Bay. They are also 100% strawless in both locations to help eliminate plastic pollution.
King Street Oyster Bar, thank you for the excellent food that you provide and for being part of what makes our community so great!
