If you hang around me enough you know that I do my best not to over-blow things. Yes, we miss it sometimes on the high end and sometimes on the low end. Now that THAT's out of the way, I want you to understand that what's happening in the weather this upcoming week could be deadly serious.

We have high confidence in very heavy rainfall on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The first image is the GFS forecast rainfall through Friday. The second one is the GEFS (an ensemble) that places a probability on a particular 'event.' What you see there is the probability of rainfall exceeding FOUR INCHES through Friday.

That's where the confidence comes from. The best-case scenario here is around 2-3" of rain; the worst-case scenario is a few places get over 10" of rain. By itself, this would be a bad deal; however, since it rained about 3-7" in the past five days, there's nowhere for this water to go if it comes like this.

Be prepared on Monday night, Tuesday and potentially Wednesday to move to higher ground if you are in a flood prone area. If you flooded last February or on Christmas Day 2015, go ahead and make preparations to protect your property. What's the worst that could happen from being prepared? I'd rather be prepared for the worst and come in with less rain than not prepared at all and find something worse than either of those events.

Severe weather? A threat is not obvious at this point, but some rough weather could develop in this pattern. Keep in touch to be sure you're in the know.

WHERE IS IT...
Most of you remember the weekly emails that Dad sent out with this title. They were usually old photos of buildings and places around Cullman. He would usually do them on Sunday morning between when he went to Grace Episcopal for early church and when he met Mom and us at St. Johns. I have been thinking about doing this again, but to be honest, I haven't gotten the nerve up to really go through his computer yet. (Yeah I know it's been 2 years.)

Well this is my first "Where is it"... If you know Dad and Mom, you will get this one pretty easy. Dad, we miss you.

Enjoyed celebrating 60 years with the Cullman Municipal Airport today. Congratulations!

CULLMAN AIRPORT CELEBRATES 60 YEARS

The Cullman Municipal Airport “Folsom Field” celebrates 60 years. Ben Harrison with the airport has done a phenomenal job over the last several years making sure the airport is top-notch and welcoming to industry and visitors coming into Cullman. Cullman County Chairman Kenneth Walker pointed out the importance of the airport specifically regarding industry. Walker said he was meeting with one of the industries in Cullman and the gentleman said if it wasn’t for the Cullman Airport he would not be there.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit the airport, go by and check out the new taxiway, soak in the rays as you watch Skydive Alabama jump out of perfectly good airplanes, admire all the aircraft on sight, and make sure to let Ben and his staff know what a wonderful job they are doing with the airport.

"Sunday Night Weather Update: Step outside. Feel the temperature? That's our coolest temperature tonight. Temperatures will actually *warm* throughout the overnight period because of a passing warm front.

"This warm and moist air will be a main contributor to our severe potential tomorrow. Some showers may be present over the region around sunrise tomorrow, but the threat for severe weather will not be until tomorrow afternoon and evening.

"Now is the time to prepare for severe weather.

Vehicle Burglary Safety Tips from Cullman Police Department:

HELP PREVENT VEHICLE BURGLARY! Most vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity. Follow these rules to reduce your chances of being a victim of vehicle burglary:

PARK in well-lit, well-traveled areas. Auto thieves prefer areas where they can't be seen or where they won't attract attention to themselves.

REMOVE or hide your valuables. Thieves target items such as purses or wallets, backpacks or gym bags, cash or coins, cell phones and other electronic devices, GPS navigation systems, jewelry, tools, mail (for identify theft), and anything else of obvious value. If you can't remove these items, at least place them well out of sight.

LOCK your vehicle & set anti-theft alarms & devices. Keep your windows rolled up, too. Some thieves walk down aisles checking for unlocked vehicle doors or open windows. And if you have a vehicle alarm or anti-theft device, use it!

TAKE your keys with you always! This one is pretty self-explanatory. Don't make it easy for thieves!

REPORT any suspicious activity. Be vigilant. If you notice something you feel is suspicious, contact the Cullman Police Department or your nearest law enforcement agency.

If you have any questions regarding vehicle burglary prevention, please contact the Cullman Police Department at 256-734-1434 or [email protected].
