Long-term care affects the entire family, both financially and emotionally. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the cost for a private room in a long- term care facility is $7,698 per month, which is no small expense and a great financial burden to a family. Long-term care insurance can help offset expenses associated with an extended-care event.*AARP

Wonderful meditation and message for hope.

I've been thinking about this woman all week. Not the one in the front, holding her child out to Jesus. The one at the top. The tiny, miserable, distant one. The one looking on from afar, longing and hoping and wishing and knowing that she has no right to be in that throng. That even though it's a crowd of broken outcasts, she still doesn't belong.

If that's you, can I tell you something?

He loves you.

He wants you.

Every bit of you. The bleeding and the sin and the shame and the addiction and the inadequacy and the self-loathing and all of it.

And I know exactly what happened after this snapshot. I know that my God, the Good Shepherd who goes after his sheep, the Divine Physician who delights in healing, turned toward that bundle of shame and inadequacy. His eyes lit up when he saw her. He pushed through the crowd and he knelt at her feet and said, "Darling. Dear heart. What do you want from me?"

I don't know what your answer is. Maybe healing or forgiveness or resurrection. Maybe you want freedom or justice or a tiny heart beating under yours. Maybe you want a time machine, to take back the mistakes you believe define you. Maybe you want your prayer to be anything other than emptiness and distraction. Maybe you just want one moment of feeling his love.

I can't promise you any of that.

I can promise you this:

He will give you himself.

You may not feel it. You may still feel like that outcast in the background. But you are already in the center of his Heart. You are already wildly loved. You are already his. Nothing can ever change that.

This Lent, I hope you know that he has his eyes on you, that his trek up Calvary was a climb up those stairs, that as he hung on the Cross and gave up his spirit he was kneeling at your feet and giving you himself. In confession, he takes off the shroud you've wrapped yourself in. In the Eucharist, he holds you to his heart and whispers words of love in your ear.

You don't have to be on the outside anymore, dear heart. Come home to him.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead an hour tonight to prepare for Daylight Savings time!
