The irony of today’s workplace is that you need to think about retirement as soon as you start working. But it’s hard. Student loans stand at record levels, while rising rents in American cities make it hard to build emergency savings.

Let’s say you and your spouse are 35, plan on retiring at 67 and earn $100,000 annually combined. You have $20,000 total across your two 401(k)s and save 10 percent of your income. If you plan to replace 80 percent of your income when you retire, expect 2 percent raises each year and plan to live to 90, you’ll need about $1.4 million in savings.
“You have to factor in what your expenses are going to be and how long you expect to live,” says PNC Wealth Management’s Leanna Johannes.
All of those “if’s” and expectations, which don’t include projected investment returns, may make you queasy.

The idea of retirement arriving earlier than you planned might sound like a good thing, but for many people it is not what they planned and it can bring about big challenges.

Did you know that 50% of retirees end up leaving the workforce earlier than they had “planned?”
The Employee Benefit Research Institute’s Retirement Confidence Survey has consistently found that a large percentage of retirees leave the work force earlier than planned. Many retirees who retired earlier than planned cite hardships for leaving the work force when they did, including health problems or disability (60 percent), changes at their company, such as downsizing or closure (27 percent), and having to care for a spouse or another family member (22 percent). Others say changes in the skills required for their job (10 percent) or other work-related reasons (22 percent) played a role.*
Some people can’t imagine a time when they wouldn’t be working. Others may plan to give up some of their current responsibilities once they retire, but still work to produce some income in retirement. While many people may plan to work during their retirement years (in some way or another), it doesn’t always work out the way you plan. Sometimes the job income opportunities may discontinue, even earlier than planned, due to:
• Health issues
• Family/dependent care responsibilities
• Economic conditions (position being eliminated, company closing, etc.)
• Inability to find suitable work

If you have the support great, however if you don’t you need a Insurance policy that will provide what your family needs to help you pay for your expenses when your gone because even after the fact I did not have a job to pay my bills and the money I was getting was going to stop because my baby was gone so I had to push my grieving way down deep and get myself up and go to work.
