Health Insurance open enrollment started yesterday and will end on 12-15-2020 for coverage beginning on 01-01-2021. We experienced a big spike in phone calls today, but everything goes smoothly for our experienced team members!
Our Houston area has a stable health insurance market meaning that the consumers have choices of carriers and plans! All of our carriers offer plans that cover pre-existing conditions!
Many of our consumers also enjoy low rates and great coverages, thanks to the tax credit and extra cost-sharing benefits from Obamacare! Maybe that is why Obamacare is going into the eighth year of plan implementation!

Our office has a smooth day helping our customers, new and returning. First-day traffic jam on the enrollment website is normal as it was in the last six years. The good news is for most of our service area, there are more carriers and plans to choose from. Most carriers keep their rates stable or lower! Most carriers also offer reward dollars! Be sure to take advantage of them. Some customers are getting a rebate from the insurance companies for their 2018 premium paid!! I see vibrant and dynamic free-enterprise spirits in this health insurance market!

[08/27/17] Filed first Harvey flood claim this morning. It is a relief to know that coverage is in force and Farmers Insurance is ready to take in claims and assign adjusters to help our policyholders! I am pleased that claim system for Farmers flood policy is easy to use. It only takes me less than 5 minutes to have claim setup with adjuster's contact information!
[08/27/17] I am taking many phone calls since Saturday to take claim information, to help with services and answering questions about coverage. Thanks goodness that we do not have damage to our house and hope to have clear roadway to be in the office tomorrow to continue to service our customers! I overheard from TV that this may be a 500 year event. The damages Harvey caused is unprecedented in history of our area for sure! [12/18/15] We announced the big news about availability of PPO from Humana to local community media today. Our customers in 26 counties can now have the PPO option again.This is significant as almost all 2016 carriers do not offer PPO anymore. Humana PPO now has MD Anderson, Methodist and Tx Children.
[12/18/15] Our team completed first half of health insurance open enrollment on the 15th and continue to service our new and existing customers on their PCP selection and other service work! [11/03/15] Thanks to our customers' patience and our team's commitment, we survive day 1 of open enrollment! The question lingering on my mind is how PPO patients treated by MD Andersen have to do when the plan got switched to HMO. The ACA is supposed to have some guarantee in coverage continuity,but after only two years, a new problem will create lots of new headaches for many. [03/28/15] What is the difference for buying insurance online vs. from us, a local agent? Today, a person who was our health insurance customer but having her daughter getting it for her online this year came in for her 1095A. I could not help her at all even if I wanted to as we no longer have access. On the contrary, a customer who was driving a rental car which was hit by a reckless driver came in and asked us to help with his claim. I spent over one hour calling rental car company, trying to get his police report and filedclaim with Farmers. That is the difference of having a local agent.
[03/23/15] We helped a customer with a medical claim bill and they saw their portion of payment reduced by $1500 last week and today, the customer brought us their home-cooked Szchuan cold dish of roast beef and spicy dakon (?). I will post the picture tomorrow! Our job is yummy!

[03/02/15] One of our customers came and told us that her husband entered the hospital for an emergency kidney stone procedure. We found out that the hospital applied wrong co-insurance, but the carrier and the (HMO) hospital still did a great job in approving the procedure in two hours. We will help them understand their Explanation of Benefits, so that they may get their 20% coinsurance advance back. She said the procedure ran up an amount over $10,000. Many times, we feel like we are in education business to help the customer understand what they are paying for.
[02/28/15] We continue to service and help our customers who have some tax-preparers who is not all that familiar with the new IRS rules on ACA insurance mandate or are confused with those rules. Unfortunately, those preparers may have cost their customer un-necessary money by not properly helping them getting the exemptions that the taxpayer may qualify for or wasting them time by sending them to our office for a 1095 A form that the customers are not supposed to have, like those who are not buying from the Marketplace. We are happy that we dug deep into the (tax) rules and are comfortable telling some accountants what is the correct response to some of the questions!
[02/26/15] Our office continues to serve our new and existing health insurance customers with PCP change,payments and other verification and status issues. We also help customers and sometimes, CPAs to clarify who are supposed to receive a IRS form 1095 A. Our accounting and tax roots help a lot with the ACA or Obamacare enrollment.
