[02/25/19] A few months back I took my first case essentially pro-bono. A contractor had sued my client to recover sums allegedly due from a mobile home remodel. I would not normally take cases regarding money pro bono, but the contractor filed a lien on the property and was trying to take the land from my client through foreclosure, even though he had only worked on the unattached mobile home. Most importantly, the contractor did a horrible job (I saw pictures), and he walked off the job. My client was up against a summary judgment. The lady had a cute little boy, the home and land were worth less than 20k and she’d lose her land if I didn’t take it. She couldn’t afford my fees. I found out today that the judge ruled on my summary judgment, and the contractor won’t be able to foreclose. On to trial to prove our counterclaims.
[01/29/19] On Saturday, I posted that I filed suit for an elderly man that was tricked out of his home. Today, I filed a new suit for a couple who are both over 60 in a case where someone forged their name on a deed and tried to bully them off their property. I’m thinking about putting out a media advisory. It seems to be an epidemic in our community.
[01/26/19] Please be aware of real estate scams perpetrated on the elderly: I'm having to file suit for an elderly client (over 80) in which the defendant convinced him that certain people were out to kill him and that a judge was looking to confine him for completely concocted reasons. She told him not to contact his family She convinced him to leave the property under these myths. That defendant then produced a deed that allegedly deeded the property into her name. She refused to let him remove his heart-related medical devices from the premises, and the client has manifested physical symptoms from stress as a result of this scam.
[01/12/19] Attention furloughed workers. Please make assistance from your mortgage lender the last resort. Many mortgage deferments end up terribly for the consumer in the long run. Many of my clients have been threatened with foreclosure after accepting deferments after hurricanes. Try borrowing from family members before accepting mortgage deferments.
